SARABANDE-THE GLENN GOULD PROJECT
Glenn Gould - Music - Animals - Children - Education
This website will be the
home of Sarabande-The
Glenn Gould Project which raises awareness about the life,
ideas and musical legacy of Canadian Pianist Glenn Gould. It also
serves as a performance society to bring classical music, and music
education to young people particularly in Ireland and the UK. It also
provides young musicians
with
exciting public performance opportunities and a platform
to showcase
their diverse musical talents, irrespective of genre, musical background or nationality. Sarabande - the Glenn
Gould Project is a non-profit organisation, and any profits go to
chosen charities (animal welfare and children's charities).
The work of Sarabande-The Glenn Gould Project has also been significant
in increasing the sales of recordings of Glenn Gould in Ireland, which
directly benefits the two beneficiaries - the Toronto Humane Society
and the Canadian Red Cross - that form a part of Gould's Estate and
Legacy. Sarabande-The Glenn Gould Project is grateful to Brian Levine
at The Glenn Gould Foundation and Steve Posen at the Glenn Gould Estate
for all their support, encouragement and advice.
Karishmeh
Felfeli-Crawford is a Glenn Gould scholar
and the only major Gould specialist
pianist and lecturer in the UK and Ireland. She is also Artistic
Director of Sarabande
- The Glenn Gould Project. From 2008, she
is also involved in "Trippin' on Bach" - which involves performing,
recording and presenting all the Bach concerti in a new, improvisatory
arrangement for solo piano and live electronics, using the voice,
thoughts and ideas of Glenn Gould in context. Ms Felfeli-Crawford has spent the
last six years immersed in the recordings, radio documentaries,
television documentaries, and work of Gould. His closest friends
(including John Roberts, Steve Posen, David Jaeger and John McGreevy)
have devoted much time and energy to Karishmeh's research and have also
collaborated with her on radio documentaries for Irish radio. The
National Library and Archives, Canada and the Canadian Museum of
Civilisation as well as CBC Toronto and Ottawa have given her access to
thousands of archive recordings, outtakes and more, not to mention her
work as a pianist and teacher in masterclasses on Gould's Steinway CD
318. She was involved in the Year of Glenn Gould Conference held by the
Estate and Foundation. She has also presented numerous benefit
lectures, masterclasses and recitals on repertoire that includes the
keyboard music of Orlando Gibbons, William Byrd, Bach, Brahms, Berg and
Webern. In Canada, her tireless work to promote Gould to a younger
generation of students, teenagers and anyone who has no knowledge of
classical music has been widely appreciated and championed by those who
knew Gould personally, and by the charities that Gould's legacy
benefits.
